San Diego Coffee Training Institute Begins Construction on Barista and Roasting Lab

SDCTI programs taught in the lab will provide professional workforce skills, job placement assistance and highly sought-after certifications from the Specialty Coffee Association

SAN DIEGO (November 7, 2017) – The San Diego Coffee Training Institute (SDCTI) today announced it has began construction on its training lab located inside Cafe Virtuoso in Barrio Logan. The lab, which is expected to be completed before the end of the year, will significantly expand the current capacity for SDCTI to offer professional barista and coffee roasting classes to the community and Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) certifications.

SDCTI is currently seeking funding and donations for espresso machines and other necessary equipment in order to conduct classes once the lab is built. The nonprofit will be hosting a party to celebrate breaking ground on the construction and to help raise these remaining funds needed.

“This is an exciting and monumental step for us who have been working so hard to make this lab a reality.” said Savannah Phillips, founder of SDCTI and Quality Assurance Manager at Cafe Virtuoso. “While this is tremendous progress, we still have a ways to go in order to acquire the remaining funds needed to make this lab fully operational, but with the continued community support, of which we are so grateful, I’m confident we’ll reach our goal.”

The party is open to the public and will include food, drinks, music, raffle prizes, a silent auction, coffee presentations, latte art classes and more. The event will take place on Tuesday, November 28 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Cafe Virtuoso, 1616 National Avenue, San Diego.

Tickets are available in advance at the following link for $20: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/san-diego-coffee-training-institute-groundbreaking-celebration-and-fundraiser-tickets-39464107207 and also at the door for $25.
